Our Story

Our Story

It all began with one overflowing bookshelf.

How StoryShelf turned a lifelong love of collecting books into a place where great reads are finally affordable for everyone.

Emma Hartley, Founder of StoryShelf

Hi, I’m Emma Hartley — the founder of StoryShelf.

Growing up, the proudest corner of our home was a crooked little bookshelf my dad built by hand. Every book on it was earned, saved for, and read until the spine gave in. Years later, as a busy mom myself, I realized those shelves had shaped me: recipes that brought my family together, devotionals that carried me through hard seasons, and guides that reminded me I was never done growing.

But as I built my own family’s shelf, something kept bothering me: the books that nourish people the most always seemed to cost the most. The beautiful editions, the meaningful guides — priced like luxuries. And I kept thinking: a good book shouldn’t be something you have to save up for.

“Every shelf deserves stories worth keeping — at a price worth smiling about.”

So StoryShelf was born — at my kitchen counter, surrounded by stacks of well-loved paperbacks. The idea was simple: take the books people genuinely treasure — from creative journaling Bibles to wholesome recipe collections to practical self-growth reads — and make them affordable and instantly accessible to anyone, anywhere. No waiting, no shipping, no excuses. Just download, open, and begin.

What started as one woman’s overflowing shelf has grown into a community of readers around the world — families who believe, like I do, that the right book at the right moment can quietly change everything.

What we believe

  • Great reads should be affordable. Books worth keeping, for the price of a coffee.
  • Instant matters. Every book is digital, so it’s on your shelf the moment you want it.
  • Quality over everything. We only share books we’d proudly keep on our own shelf.
  • You, supported. A real, caring team behind every order.

Thank you for being here. Whether you’re cooking from scratch, deepening your faith, or simply making room on your shelf for one more story — I’m so glad you found us.
